i think he was referring to graphics software.

i'd recommend gimp.

"Irfanview" is a free viewer which can open most graphics files quickly and then save them as JPG. It has a thumbnail viewer as well which enables you to search your folders and then transfer images to the main program.
If downloading be sure to get the pluggins as well as the main program.It has a simple edit box similar to Paint.I find this faster than Photoshop and Paintshop Pro.

Agree that Infranview is very good for browsing and viewing (PowerPoint or something similar is better for slide shows)
Also with echoes, gimp is probably the best of the (legally) free graphic software available

IrfanView is a nice program for sure, but I'd go for the gimp if your looking for a great free editor. I've got both loaded on my computer and I use them both. IrfanView for viewing, gimp for editing.

I've always used GIMP for my fakes. Works great. Development is very slow because there aren't that many developers working on it so new releases are not often. However, every new version is usually loaded with great new features bringing it more on par with Photoshop and streamlining it more.
