Did anyone see the PBS show on her last night? For those of you who don't know her, she was an American Rodeo star/sharpshooter/entertainer, (born Phoebe Anne Moses, 13 August 1860, in Darke County, Ohio, USA; died 3 November 1926). Her career as a sharpshooter started at age 17 when she defeated the noted marksman, Frank E. Butler at a competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. The two eventually married and traveled with the Buffalo Bill Show for 17 years (1885 - 1902), where she was often called “Little Sure Shot.” A name given to her by the great Indian Chief Sitting Bull.
Oakley performed throughout the United States and Europe. At the height of her career, she was one of the most famous cultural icons in the United States. She became the first American female superstar. Yeah baby!
