Dorothy Jean Dandridge (November 9,1922-Septmber 8,1965) Was an American film & theater actress, singer & dancer. She was best known being the 1st African-American actress nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 1954 film "Carmen Jones."She is the subject of the 1999 HBO biographical film,"Introducing Dorothy Dandridge", starring Halle Berry.
