I knew you would post her, Slinkee. I think she's from the north of England and I worked for weeks with guys from Manchester and Liverpool on a siesmic boat in Jacksonville, Florida as we refitted it but her accent is beyond my knowledge. Very hard for me to understand but I'm just a dumb guy from West Texas. Clue me in darlin'.

Hi hon. It's a bit of a mixed accent, but I'd hazzard a guess at Lankashire. If not that, then probably Yorkshire. Actually, she's a bit hard for me to understand too - probably because she often speaks quite quietly..

After work we would go to a tiny beer joint near the shipyard and the noise made it very difficult for me to understand these guys. The accent seemed to have hints of a Scottish sound but was also very mushy. As soon as they said some of them were from Liverpool I thought of the Beatles and especially Ringo who always sounded as if he had a mouthful of peanut butter! I'm sure they had difficulty understanding my Texas accent. They were great guys and some of the best pipefitters I've ever seen. Everything was straight and true and that is very difficult when you install as much hydraulic piping as they did on an exiting vessel. When I got back to Houston and talked to our Marine Division they said they were in such demand because of their quality work that they had to be booked for a job six months in advance.

I worked with tons of Brits, a few Scots and Irish and one Welshman over the years and never had so much trouble understanding an accent. One of my fellow sysadmins was from the East End and I had no problem understanding him but these guys really made me strain to understand them. I would be doing fine and then they would seem to go down in pitch and mumble and I would lose that part of the sentence - just like this girl. Thanks for the information on her accent and I'm glad to know you have trouble too. I don't feel like such a provincial idiot!

May I say that this board is so great - not only because of all this girls' stuff - but also because of my buddy lineback with his amazing comments and stories - IMO the board has changed considerably into - let's say more varieties of good quality since he's here and became a mod. I always read his posts when I see his name ... it's so interesting, funny, informative and enjoyable - no smilies, no nothing - just my honest opinion. (btw, your story about the hats in the other thread is just so great - this should never be deleted, but stay here until the end of our days.)
