According to phpbb developers this attack isn't related to any phpbb security hole, phpbb was just used after gaining access to the server in other ways to attack its users.

But I updated phpbb to 2.0.23 just to be on the safe side :)

funny you should mention that, i've been wondering lately which version exactly of phpbb this board uses. ever considered upgrading to phpbb3?

as for phpbb3, unfortunately it doesn't support attachments on external server so at the moments it's a no go :(
Plus when I tried to convert the database to the phpbb3 format on my local machine the convertion speed was 15 rows/sec which would result in approx. 20 days for the whole operation... really sucks

Maybe, but it still lacks certain relevant to me functions. Plus I don't imagine having to disable posting for 2 weeks just to perform the upgrade.
I'm hoping though that future phpbb versions will eliminate both of the issues.
