Disaster

Im wondering ... has there been some disaster in the past few weeks... ?
have you lost a ton of pics ?

Just went to Posh thread.... 1 page of fakes ! thats not right,
last time I was here there were 21 pages of posh fakes

wot happened ?

N o, I ve been here since then....
its prob august since I was last on the Posh thread though..
I logged it at the time......... up to page 21 ....
so there were prob 40 odd pages back then ......
efin ell... its painful to think of whats been lost ....

Probably the safest way is to use photo hosts... image venue etc.
and the handful that allow hot, racy pics.

But this wipe out seems to happen to forums again and again....
Lets face it most forums are just a pile of text... links to the photo hosts
you d think that from time to time the forums would let you save the
text to a cd disc.... say once a month... then everything would be safe and sound.

We always backed up the site and it worked fine for 6 years.
Then the host crashed, taking the back up with it.
Shit happens. :dontknow:

urmm just a thought...

i run a local backup of the site i run.. so IF the host server ever goes down, it can be re-installed within 24 hours

I also do that for my sites...however 500+gigs is a lot to back up and store.

Surely in a forum like this... over a whole year....
there cant be much more than 500 meg to store...
after all its just text and links... am I wrong ?

Yes.....this site hosted its own pics and was on its second hd when it went tits up.
Only now are we changing to outside hosts and admin are redesigning the software
for a new board.
In the meantime we have to make use of the existing (and unreliable) set-up.
