You can save the pics also as .jpg in PowerDVD!!! Go to the programs advanced properties and then to the screenshoot-tab. There is a possibility to decide in what format and where you want to save the screenshots... :D

There are very good standalone image capture programs. I use ImageGrabber, it handles every file type I've come across except *.flv files.

Whenever I get an flv file I use SUPER to convert it to avi. It is freeware and simple to use

i'd recommend against this. i'd actually recommend against using jpeg in general, but unfortunately & obviously it is the most widely used image format on the web.
PNG is a lossless image format. it does not throw away image quality, unlike jpeg. as a matter of fact, it uses compression like zip to compress images. there is no artifacting like in jpeg.

example:


png has practically as widespread support as jpeg, its just that not as many ppl know about png.

its better cuz its lossless. you can compress your image without losing any quality!

...to save the Images as .jpg is one possibility in PowerDVD. If you prefer .png, you can adjust this... 8)

In my opinion the best format for pics is .tif... :D

agreed. you can do whatever you want or whatever suits your needs. it was just advice, not a dictate.

i agree with this also, sort of. because they're both lossless, image quality isn't a factor. what it comes down to is compression. png produces smaller file sizes....
but if one doesn't care about filesize, then either png or tif will do, doesn't matter either way.

Just thanks to everybody in this thread for all the info! =D>

something else i might mention in defense of png vs tif, is that png is a free open source format, tif is not. (and maybe cuz of that, png has wider support).
