We are just moderators - we can't fix the speed problem. Those of us that can function reasonably well are trying to do what we can to help the posters by removing the locks on some topics that appeared when the board was moved. I posted a video link with five vidcaps night before last and had no problems once the thread opened. Lots of people are posting without complaints. And you can take that "IF" out of your post. It will get back to normal.
I know we should expect teething problems and I know lots of people have been working hard to sort them out but let's face it, that's been the state of play for weeks now and still the board doesn't work. I'm not blaming anyone and I'm sorry to sound negative but everyone's been very patient and I don't think it's unfair to say that the new server is very poor. I know the Mods can't do anything about that but if whoever actually owns the board is listening, it's time to do something drastic before members get frustrated and start leaving. It took me countless attempts just to post this!
Mike, our Administrator was telling us in the Mods forum of the series of unexpected problems that have come up.
He is no happier about things than we are. Hopefully things will be fixed soon
I clicked VIEW POSTS SINCE LAST VISIT and got a random selection of topics, some a month old
Can you back out of this new board and get the old trusty one online again?
Nope, doesn't work that way. We just have to wait until this one is fully functional. This isn't the first time that changes have caused problems. That's the way things work in the computer business most of the time. I could tell you a ton of nightmare stories from my 20 years in the business.
Looks great, big improvement more professional look
as yet, I haven't been able to view a thread without waiting over a minute; it's like my old dialup returns, slow attachments eh?
Still, looks good
I posted about 30pics yesterday altogether it probably took me about three hours of work, and i mean work. This is supposed to be fun, and its not. If its not fixed soon or appears to get better most people will stop posting and stop viewing its just not worth the aggravation. I know the mods can't do anything about it but the people that own the board should realize what will eventually happen. Its a shame because this was a great site, well run with really good content. Just my two cents worth, but i have to believe i am not the only one who feels this way.
You might be surprised to find that most of the Mods feel that way too. But as you quite rightly pointed out there isn't a damned thing that we can do about it. I know for a fact that it is driving Mike crazy as well. . . so I remain patient. But like you, I want it to be "fun" not just work!Quote:

We're now into our 4th week of this BS with apparently no end in sight as to when this board will be fully functional. Maybe enough members haven't complained enough to get the squeaky wheel grease. Hmmm, where have I heard that before? Perhaps when enough members get pissed off enough to complain, stop posting or showing up, a more sense of urgency will come in to play. I for one, am going to give it a few more days and if the board is still not running optimally, I'll spend my time on other boards that do until corrective measures are put into play.Quote:

None of us are happy about this, including Admin, but Admin are the only ones who can do anything about it.

Actually, where I work, in a major upgrade such as this, there would be a contingency plan in which rolling back the changes would be contemplated, in case things don't work as planned, and the upgrade is a disaster.Quote:

Just my two cents turning up the heat on whomever is listening and hoping for a quick resolution. I like the board and I want it fixed. :axe:
I'm guessing you may work for a large financial or insurance company where data safety and availability are the highest priority. My time was spent working for geophysical companies that processed seismic data and speed to get more data out the door to our clients was the only concern. We were constantly installing hardware systems to see if they gave us more speed. Frequently they caused system crashes but since we had the original data on tape that wasn't a problem - we just restarted the job. The only time any changes were rolled back was if a new software module had fatal bugs and then we would go back to the previous version.
In this case, the owner of the board is having to deal with a reseller of hosting services so he doesn't have control over everything and has to wait for requests to be fulfilled. I've had to deal with that as admin on another board and it is very frustrating.
I can click a topic title and it will open (usually) but when I click a specific page from the forum index it does nothing, I have to open that page in a new window.
