No answers yet. Perhaps IE is the way to go.
i didn't mean that an insult to you personally, just noobs in general for posting about the same thing over and over. don't take it personally.

i don't mind deleting & typing a few letters. besides, IE blows compared to FF.

    Apology accepted!

I "tested" thru IE and it's status quo as the old days here for me. Hit refresh and the .bmp is gone and .jpg with the file name appears. I'll be happy to do that from now on. Just as AOL is my main browser for general e-mail and the like, I had to give that up long ago when Rapidshare files, etc., were in the offing. Some websites as well will not take your log-in and keep you there thru AOL, so before FF, IE was my fall back option.

I will stand by my calling the inability to save pictures a "major pain." How could it not, if no workable alternative is given?

This place, formerly CelebsDB, will always be fondest in my computer-surfing heart since it was here I first ventured out and shared picture content. The ability to upload directly was a Godsend to, yes, then a real newb. Since then, I've learned quite a few tricks, and although my post count ain't up there with some others, it simply means I've been busy elsewhere, perhaps lured by the sites with flashier posts with hundreds of pics and harder content.

I'll try to not be as much a stranger here.
    Sig pic gone.

There have been workable alternatives given. So much so, that all of this is redundant. Once again, if you're using the latest version of FireFox all you have to do is click "File" on your Toolbar, then click "Save Page As..." on the drop down, then save the pic as jpeg. It's that simple. Where the major pain is in that, is curious to say the least. I've been using FF almost exclusively for a couple of years now and I've never had a problem downloading pics from this site.

fwiw, if you have the menu editor extension for ff installed you can actually put the "Save Page As" menu item in the right-click context menu....

Thanks for both hints. Actually, the alternative I saw on the other thread, mentioned "save page as" but without the knowledge of either clicking File first or downloading another fine FF extension, I was lost. I did a search and no answers until now, worked for me. IE so far is workable but I'll be trying that extension as soon as I get the chance. Firefox rocks and I'm just a bit disappointed I hadn't gone that route sooner than only 8 months ago. Sorry for being "redundant" but perhaps I find the content here worthwhile and well worth the save once in a while.

I'm always quick to help out any way I can, staying positive and upbeat here and elsewhere, but by its very nature, this place has always required a little trick or two to be truly surfer-friendly. I'll soldier-on the best I can, but I still feel a bit like I've received a spanking.

    Ouch!

Seriously though, I successfully downloaded the Menu Editor 1.2.3.3 and I'm currently running FF version 2.0.0.12. It took awhile to find the thing first off (inside my Tools/Add Ons) and then to move the "Save Page As.." over to the left panel under File. I needed to click File and then "Save Page As..." as gryphondo mentioned. Just a bit awkward as I first thought it would magically appear in my right-click menu.
