But I updated phpbb to 2.0.23 just to be on the safe side

as for phpbb3, unfortunately it doesn't support attachments on external server so at the moments it's a no go
Plus when I tried to convert the database to the phpbb3 format on my local machine the convertion speed was 15 rows/sec which would result in approx. 20 days for the whole operation... really sucks

Maybe, but it still lacks certain relevant to me functions. Plus I don't imagine having to disable posting for 2 weeks just to perform the upgrade.
I'm hoping though that future phpbb versions will eliminate both of the issues.
