The War of Next Gen Consoles

Hey everyone with it being tax season I was pondering what to waste my return on. I came to the decision of buying a next generation gaming console, I've had a PS2 forever now and just last year bought a used original xbox. I have quite enjoyed the xbox only titles such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Fable, and Morrowind. I also really love the ability to rip music to the drive and play in most games. I still love my PS2 and play the hell out of the Resident Evil games, but the no loading times on the xbox is a real pleasure. Well as I was getting to I'm pretty stuck as to what to buy, a PS3 or the 360, I've read numerous posts and blogs about the perks and set backs of each console but I still can't seem to decide. The titles that 360 has are amazing from stuff like Bioshock, Oblivion, to the numerous GTA exquisite games and of course Halo 3. One of the things that makes me lean towards the PS3 is despite not having a very epic library just yet the 360 has been out for quite a while now and I fear it will fade away long before the PS3 does. I really like the mold of the Xbox controller and the ability to not have to deal with 30 different memory cards. So what are your guy's thoughts on this, head to head which console do you think would be worth the money in the long run, like the pros and cons. Also if you happen to own both consoles I'd love to hear your remarks.

Thanks for the info. I'm curious when you bought your 360, was it the pro version, elite, or arcade. Also exactly what types of problems have you been having with it? I read that the elite version has overheating problems, but I've also read that is just a myth. Apparently with the original Xbox and the 360 there is this red light of doom thing which I guess is power failure and it won't turn on. I've had my original Xbox for a while now and have encountered no problems except going through controllers as they take a lot of abuse. As far as the games I am looking to play I had planned on diving into games like Gears of War, Halo 3, GTA IV, Resident Evil 5, Alone in the Dark, Forza 2, WWE Legends of Wrestlemania, Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, Bioshock ect. I'd say one of the things that is holding me back from the PS3 is of course the price, plus I also read that the graphics on 360 are better as apparently the PS3 hasn't been fully maxed out in potential as far as games go. I also heard that most PS3 titles are simply ports of 360 versions. I realize that the PS3 has the nifty blue-ray but I think the price on those movies is still rather ridiculous I'm still happy with my regular plain jane DVD player.

well i got my 360 several months after its origional release date. the first one didnt work right out of the box. took it back and that lasted for about a year. got the ring of death sent it in got it back. about a year later ring of death again. so you can tell horrible luck. i also own an origional xbox got it at a pawn shop.not one problem to this day. the ps3 is actualy a more powerful system so it should be around longer than the 360. they will keep pushing the bar higher and i think well be amazed later the kind of stuff the system will be able to do. that can be probably be said for both systems.the problems with the 360 well mabey youll be one of the lucky ones. i sure wasnt. i would highly recomend getting the extended warranty. i know thats bullshit you shouldnt have to. but there bulding this crap so cheaply its better safe than sorry.on the games some of the ones you mentiond are 360 exclusives gears of war, halo and a few others. the same can be said about the ps3. killzone the future god of war 3 when it gets released. some games hit both system grand theft auto, oblivion fallout 3. so in the end i got the 360 first because it was released first and then bought the ps3 when it was released. so i get to play all the games. that is kinda nice. so if your only going to get one system. just think about what you want and see if that system delivers and are you ready to deal with any problems that system might have. i hope ive been at least a little helpful. so if both systems were releases at the same time i would go ps3 as my first choice.good luck with whatever decision you make.
