    Disappearing posts

What has happened to my posts??? Some days ago, I had some 20 posts. Now suddenly, three days later, most have disappeared! How come??

If a mod has deleted your posts you should have recieved a PM telling you why.

Do you know where they went from?

A lot of "Wow thanks" type posts are regularly deleted, especially as we now have a Thanks button.

    Heres the inside track:-
If you want your wonderful prose to stay on board then pop along
to Google or where-ever and find a pic you can publish.
No Mod is going to delete a post with a pic in it.

And when you post a picture, do it directly to the board.
Dead links are the cause of many deletions.

Text-only posts of these types are deleted without notice:
    • Great pics!
    • She's got the most amazing rack/legs/whatever.
    • She's hot, but I think (whoever) is hotter still.
    • Got any more? (or any request more than 3 months old)
Additionally, while it's policy to send a PM to members when deleting old messages that include non-text content, I often don't bother when these amount to dead links or expired images on external hosting sites dating from a couple years back.

i always PM the poster in the hope that they can reup the content & then i edit their post to include the new link. that is of course assuming the person is an active member and not a member that hasn't posted in years.

Frankly my metric is fairly subjective; I don't bother with the PM if I don't recognize the name as a recent contributor, or I saw equivalent content later in the thread. Most clips are going to feature the same (ahem) important parts, after all.

There are a couple of things I've been wondering about that are relevant to this thread.

I too have noticed a few of my posts disappearing. While I can understand many of the reason stated above, my post all though not containing a pic were relevant to the discussion in the thread (example) so&so's links are still working if you want to download that file or a direct answer to a direct question. Those same deleted posts of mine were repeated almost verbatim by other posters yet there's still remain.

My second question is not only for the Mods but everyone.
What is the appropriate use of the "Thanks Button"?
Are you supposed thank someone for their post even if you don't download the file they posted?
I'll thank someone if they post multiple pics in a thread, but usually I only click thanks if I've download something like a rapidshare link.
The reason I wonder is because one of my screen grabs can have an number of thanks posted but then when I check my file manager to check the number of downloads, there's none.
Just thought that that was weird.

    Thanks

i can't answer your first question.

use the thanks button as you see fit. there isn't really a wrong way to use it, at least not that i can think of.

The Thanks can be a handy marker. I use it, especially if I download a file, to mark where I've been.

I often thank a post, even if I don't take anything from it. A good post deserves thanks.

I'll use THANKS! when I see that somebody has posted images I've already got in my collection, so that's another case where there's no download. I figure they're saving me the effort.

The Famous Board loses old threads every so often. When you've already posted a lot the first time around that's a bit disheartening. It's rather nice when somebody who has downloaded your submissions posts them back to the new version of the thread.

Totally agree........however 95% of the members here are either too ignorant or lazy to even thank the fakirs for their efforts.......and as for getting them to vote in the fake competitions is even harder....even put the comps url in my signature to make it easier but no joy.

As for deleting of posts...I only delete posts of one word reply of "thanks" and other non benificial content...........to me it does not constitute a worthy post......if they want their posts to remain it should contain content........one word replies are a waste as thats what the thanks button is for.
