Remember when the government didn't rip you off? - Nah, me either.
Remember when you first heard, " Luke, I am your father. "?
I know spanking children is out of favor but I got whipped by many relatives and I deserved it every time. I'll never forget when my grandmother caught me shooting rocks at the pears in the pear tree and she made me cut a small branch from the peach tree (called a "switch" for those of you not from the southern U.S.).Originally Posted by butler bill
She whipped my legs and butt as tears rolled down her face. She said she hated to whip me but destroying food could not be allowed. My mother grew up in the Great Depression and the small amount of crops on that little farm fed our family and others. What I did was stupid and unforgivable and the punishment was deserved.
It didn't scar me or make me prone to violence. I simply paid the price for doing wrong. I learned my lesson.
I know what you mean, many's the time my Grandmother, or even my Great-grandmother, warned me by saying "Boy, if you don't cut that out I'm gonna stripe your legs!" I stopped whatever it was that I was doing too, because I knew that there wouldn't be a second warning! What sucked was when they made you cut your own peach tree switch! If you tried to run they'd grab you by the crook of your arm and gave you a few extra stripes while you danced around trying in vain to avoid that switch. I'd swear those two old ladies could have run off a full grown bear with nothing but a peach tree switch! Of course the stripes were always gone by the next morning, unlike the scratches we got just from playing.Originally Posted by lineback
Remember when your Grandmother would discipline you, then later give you some kind of treat because it broke her heart to make you cry?
I remember once when my grandpa yelled at me and told me to get out of bed and get ready for school. I ignored him and continued sleeping. The next thing I know, he's in my room with his belt "tanning my hide", as they used to say. You better believe the next time he told me to get up and get ready for school, I did it the first time.
I hear you 100% bro! Having to cut my own peach tree switch just made the anticipation of the punishment that much worse. Grandmother always said if I cut the switch too big she would whip me longer. Her brother also kept a wooden paddle with 50 holes in it hanging on the old tank house just in case we needed to learn from our mistakes. It whistled as it went through the air. He only had to paddle me once with it before I figured out I was not going to win this battle.
I was an idiot child but I quickly learned that doing stupid things did not have good results. Lessons learned!
Remember dirt bikes were all 2 stroke and ran REALLY fast.
