    Just to keep the laments for the GOD (Good Old Days) in perspective;

    Dentistry without novicaine?
    Low speed non-diamond drills?
    Glass syringes and reusable needles?
    Being sent to summer camp because of polio?
    Kids wearing braces because of polio?
    Censorship much worse than it is now?
    Book burning (yes in the USA)?
    'Commie' hunts?
    Having to wait until you could drive to the public library to look something up?
    The library not having the specialized reference works you needed?
    Bomb/fallout shelters?
    Fellatio being a (prosecutable) felony?
