    Search

When I try to find the Lia, from Lia 19 & FTVgirls, I get a not found. Is there a problem with her thread?

She's not showing up in either the search or the static index. You might want to thumb through the forum pages to see if you can find her. This might be one of the topics that got to close to the board black hole.

There are a handfull of topics that won't show up on search no matter what we do. I save the URLs in my notepad for the ones that I want to visit fairly often.

Guys, if it doesn't show up with Lia, or Lia 19 try Lia19. Variations on a theme.

Thanks, GR and everyone else who responded. I posted a pic so it'll always be in my list.

The problem (which is not a problem but an advantage) is this board is based on Linux servers and Search works as it does in Unix, not at all like the Find function in Windows which matches anything close and gives you a lot of garbage. Just remember to use the shortest unique string and follow it with an * (wildcard). Lia* would have found the thread since it's named Lia19 but just the search string Lia is looking for a thread by that name and Lia19 would not show up. Before the Christina Model thread had to be removed I posted a tutorial on searching the 170 pages for specific sets and I found that if you searched for *389* this would give any combination of Set 389, Set-389, Christina 389, etc. I never had anyone after that say they couldn't find a set. Also check the box to search for the string in Title and Message Body and it works very well. The only enhancement I always wanted was to search attachment names also to take care of lazy posters who don't put the name of the set in the title or body of the message.

I think I fixed it, (using Mike's advice), try it again.

in regards to what lineback said...

yes, the unix searches are more "intelligent" i would say. i'm on kubuntu 7.10 alpha i386. check out this article (titled: "Why Windows is less secure than Linux") if anyone is interested. it has two amazing diagrams that show how the average windows server makes system calls vs a linux server.

Works fine for me. I searched for cookie* just as I suggested to do in my post above. I was a Unix sysadmin for over ten years so I'm not posting idle speculation. Search as I suggested and it will almost always work.

I tried several times with the asterisk (-> cookie*) and it didn't work, but now it's working normally again. I won't bother you guys anymore with this.
